Commissioner Michael McAuley was chosen by the Commission on Tuesday (Jan. 7) to serve as president of the Port of Bellingham’s Board of Commissioners for 2014. Commissioner Dan Robbins was selected to be vice president and Commissioner Jim Jorgensen was picked for secretary.
These appointments were made by the Board of Commissioners in their first meeting of the year. The meeting began with Whatcom County Auditor Debbie Adelstein administering the oath of office to newly elected Commissioner Robbins (District 1) and returning Commissioner McAuley (District 2). Both were elected to four-year terms.
Commissioners also determined who would serve on local boards for 2014:• Whatcom Council of Governments: Jorgensen, Alternate: McAuley• Washington Public Ports Association: McAuley, Alternate: Robbins• Whatcom County Economic Development Investment Program Committee: McAuley, Alternate: Robbins• Western Crossing (Shared Port and Western Washington University Development Entity): Robbins, Alternate: Jorgensen
In other Commission action, they approved continuing the appointment of Port staff members Tamara Sobjack as Auditor and Valierie Schorr as Deputy Auditor. In accordance with state law, these appointments are made annually. The Commission also approved continuing to contract with Chmelik, Sitkin & Davis, P.S., Attorneys at Law, as the Port’s general legal counsel.
The next Board of Commissioners meeting will be at 3 p.m., Tuesday, January 21, at the Harbor Center Conference Room, 1801 Roeder Avenue.
