Port Reduces Weekday Rates for Meeting Rental Facilities

Community-owned waterfront meeting and event locations just got a little more affordable for local businesses and community groups with the introduction of new lower rates, some as low as $20 per hour, at the Port of Bellingham’s meeting and event facilities.

“We are responding to the needs of our local community by reducing rates during times where these outstanding buildings often are empty,” said Port Commission President Scott Walker. “Our goal is to increase the use of Port facilities during weekdays, especially by businesses and community groups.”

Port Commissioners approved new rental rates at their meeting on Tuesday. These rates will take effect immediately.

Among the changes, weekday rates have been reduced at some of the Port’s most popular facilities. Rent the Dome Room at the Bellingham Cruise Terminal or the Squalicum Boathouse for as low as $40 per hour, or the Blaine Boating Center for as little as $20 per hour.

These rate reductions are in addition to the economic development discount the Port introduced for all its meeting facilities in 2010. That special rate provided a 25 percent discount for reservations related to local business economic development use, things like employee trainings, product development and demonstrations.

Peak rental times, such as summer weekends, did not have their rental rates reduced because the peak times typically are booked months in advance.
