Public invited to Bellingham Bay Work Group meeting and Open House
Bellingham -- The Bellingham Bay Demonstration Pilot Work Group, a partnership of 14 federal, state, tribal and local agencies, is meeting at the Bellingham Cruise Terminal, 355 Harris Avenue, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2005. The Work Group meeting will be followed by a community open house from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The Work Group meeting and open house will include information regarding the status of the group’s efforts to clean up polluted sediments, control pollution sources and restore habitat on Bellingham’s waterfront, in coordination with planned land use changes. The Work Group meeting is open to the public. The community open house will provide an opportunity for the public to ask questions and learn more about the activities of the Work Group.
The Port of Bellingham and the Washington Department of Ecology co-manage the Work Group, which has been meeting since 1996. The Work Group published an environmental planning document in 2000 called the Bellingham Bay Comprehensive Strategy. This publication guides decision-makers as they cleanup historic pollution, control pollution sources, and restore historically lost habitat, in coordination with the community’s vision for a vibrant waterfront.
