Vintage Aircraft on Display at Warbird Weekend in Bellingham

[Bellingham, Wash.] You may have heard the rumble above or seen the vintage planes flying overhead during veterans’ or memorial ceremonies. Now’s your chance to see these aircraft and many others at the Warbird Weekend event at the Bellingham International Airport on Saturday, August 19 from 9 am to 4 pm.

The Port of Bellingham and the Heritage Flight Museum invites everyone to come and enjoy this fun community event which is open to all. Admission is $5 per person suggested donation and parking is free.

Visitors can get an up-close look at the museum’s collection of flying World War II, Korean War and Viet Nam era aircraft including a P-51 Mustang, F8F Bearcat, Douglas Skyraider, Fairchild PT-19, Boeing Stearman, a Bell M*A*S*H Helicopter and many more. The event will also showcase Warbirds from around the nation and a special appearance by the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island Search and Rescue Knighthawk helicopter is planned.

Weather dependent, solo and formation flights of some of the aircraft will occur throughout the day. Other displays will include vintage military vehicles and the Bell-Air R/C Flyer’s remote control aircraft. Visitors are welcome to bring picnic lunches.

The Heritage Flight Museum is located at the south end of the Bellingham International Airport, 2000 W. Bakerview Road. Plenty of free parking is available. Watch for signs and parking directors. ADA parking and a visitor drop-off zone will be in the lot in front of the museum.

The Port of Bellingham operates Whatcom County’s major transportation terminals including the Bellingham Airport, Fairhaven Transportation Station and the Bellingham Cruise Terminal. The Port also serves about 2,000 moorage customers in its Blaine and Squalicum Harbors.

In addition, about 300 businesses operate on Port properties, which are managed by the Port Real Estate Division. The Port of Bellingham is a countywide independent special purpose government.
