Port Commission Selects Officers for 2008
Bellingham, WA - Today the Port of Bellingham's Board of Commissioners met and selected officers for 2008. Commissioner Doug Smith was elected by the board to serve as President, Commissioner Jim Jorgensen was elected Vice President and Commissioner Scott Walker was elected Secretary.
At the Commission meeting, Whatcom County Auditor Shirley Forslof administered the Oath of Office to Jorgensen who was re-elected to serve a second four-year term.
The commission also set the date, time and location of the regular commission meetings for 2007. The regular meeting dates will continue to be at 3 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at the Harbor Center Conference Room, 1801 Roeder Avenue. Occasionally meeting dates or times may change and the port's website www.portofbellingham.com will have the latest information.
At their first meeting of the year, the Commissioners chose who would serve on a variety of community boards and councils. The following appointments were made:
• Bellingham/Whatcom Economic Development Council: Doug Smith
• Whatcom Council of Governments: Scott Walker
• Washington Public Ports Association: Scott Walker
• Public Art Advisory Team: Jim Jorgensen
• Whatcom County Economic Development Investment Program: Jim Jorgensen
The Port of Bellingham operates Whatcom County's major transportation terminals including the Bellingham Airport, Fairhaven Transportation Station and the Bellingham Cruise Terminal. The Port also serves about 2,000 moorage customers in its Blaine and Squalicum Harbors.
In addition, about 300 businesses operate on Port properties. The Port of Bellingham is a countywide, independent, special-purpose government.
