The Port has extended an option to a group of local investors known as the BoardMill Group to purchase and redevelop 5.3 acres in the Waterfront District. This property is referred to as the Boardmill Block and includes the historic Boardmill Building. The BoardMill Group is proposing to redevelop the property in three separate phases:
- The transformation of the historic Boardmill Building into a 107-room hotel and banquet hall
- A seven-story residential project which includes approximately 160 residential units plus commercial and restaurant space
- A parking structure with commercial space, approximately 80 residential units wrapping the structure, and publicly accessible park space on the top floor.
The BoardMill Group's purchase option includes performance requirements with multiple Port Commission review and approval steps prior to the transfer of property. Redeveloping the historic Boardmill Building into a boutique hotel is required as part of the first phase of development.
