Whatcom County has some of the best kayaking and human powered boating in the world. The Port developed a Water Trails Map highlighting 22 fresh and saltwater trails.
The Community Boating Center in Fairhaven rents kayaks, sailboats, rowboats and paddle boards; and offers programs and experiences for boaters of all skill levels. Just down the shoreline in Marine Park, KayakShare has a kiosk with short-term kayak rentals. The Bellingham Yacht Club is another great resource for youth sailing programs
The Port is currently developing the first hand-launch dock in Whatcom County. This community asset will provide the only ADA kayak access north of Everett. The new dock is anticipated to be complete by 2027 and a conceptual rendering is shown below.
