Development Opportunities

Industrial


The Waterfront District includes large areas of property available for industrial activities such as marine cargo and related construction, clean technology, high-tech, and light manufacturing and assembly.  Western Washington University will expand its main campus to six acres in the Waterfront District providing a resource for local industrial research and development and commercial innovation.  The Waterfront District is serviced by a deep-water shipping terminal and a truck route which is located approximately 5 minutes from Interstate 5. 

Marine Trades


The 52-acre marine trades area includes property available for working waterfront activities such as boat building and repair, marine haul-out facilities, marine product manufacturing and supplies, and research and development. 
 

Mixed-Use Commercial


The Port is working with a Master Developer to create opportunities for mixed use commercial development in the Waterfront District adjacent to the Whatcom Waterway.  The City of Bellingham will build new streets and parks to service the waterfront redevelopment area and Western Washington University has plans to expand its main campus to six acres in the Waterfront District which will benefit mixed-use commercial development.
